It’s a tight little three-part miniseries that will forever change your feelings about View Masters. Because it’s British, there’s a bit more subtlety, a little bit more left to the imagination. And I was absolutely bowled over by Timothy Spall’s performance as a grieving father who joined his local chapter of a paranormal investigation society. He’s got these endearing old-man mannerisms that make him seem so lovely and vulnerable and folksy. Also fascinating: the poltergeist has an identity. I usually think of them as nebulous pranksters, like bum energy dissociated from an actual personality. But this was much creepier!
